What is Cinnulin PF? – Ask the Pharmacist

Cinnulin PF is water-soluble extract made from cinnamon using two different varieties including Cinnamomum burmannii.

Another variety of cinnamon you may have heard may also refer to Cinnamomum cassia.

This cinnamon extract is unique because it contains double linked Type-A polymers, specifically tetramers and trimers.

Tetramers and Trimers of polyphenols from cinnamon have been associated with several health benefits including those related to Metabolic syndrome (high cholesterol and high blood sugar).

How does Cinnulin PF work?

Laboratory studies have found that polyphenols in cinnamon can increase glucose metabolism by nearly 20 fold.  Another study found that compounds in cinnamon can mimic the actions of insulin.

Another proposed mechanism is that the compounds in cinnamon can support glucose transport.

Clinical studies have found that Cinnulin, the extract of cinnamon, can improve blood sugar levels.

Here are some other natural ways to help lower blood sugar.

Is Cinnulin safe?

The clinical trials seem to suggest that it is safe and tolerable.  Something to consider is that because Cinnulin PF can lower blood sugar you should talk to your doctor if you are using medications to lower blood sugar.

The reason is that Cinnulin in combination with medications to lower blood sugar may result in hypoglycemia (i.e. “low blood sugar”).
