Herbal Pharmacy – Blood root

Bloodroot has a long history of use by Native Americans to address a variety of infections including ringworm and other skin infections.

Another use has been to use it as a dye for cloth and leather.

Medicinal uses

Anti-infective – traditionally bloodroot has been used by Native Americans to treat ringworm and other skin infections

Cervical dysplasia – This refers to abnormal growth on the cervix which is often called a precancerous lesion.

Respiratory system – Bloodroot has been used as an expectorant to help remove phlegm from the lungs, bronical irritaiton.

Herbal Pharmacy Recipes

Syrup – 1 teaspoon, 1 to 3 times daily

Tincture – 5 to 10 drops, 1 to 3 times daily

Harvesting

Bloodroot tends to grow well in rich, well drain soil in full to partial sun.  The root is thick and round producing a red and orange liquid hence the coloring properties.
